I've posted some pics of Sea Dogs on my Flickr account. Unfortunately the fire dancer shots were slightly out of focus due to it being at night. :(

Anyhow, some pics are public, but the full set is only available if you sign up for a free account and friend me there.

12:00PM - My Yahoo answer, but they closed the question before I was done.

So I decided to post it here, since I wnent through the effor of trying to put together a decent answer.

The question:

What would be a good dish to prepare for somebody in a bad mood?

Like if they are down about work or something?

My answer:

Being “Down” or in a “Bad Mood” is an emotional state, and when looking for foods to help with that, we need to look at foods that can help ones emotional level. This is why when people are “down” and go to eat, they look often craving “comfort” foods. To help them feel better.

Getting slightly scientific, cravings are often a result of your body telling you what vitamins/chemicals it’s needing to function. For example, you body needs potassium. Your brain processes this and basically looks up what it can get potassium from, and then in turn tells you what you should eat. In this case, a Banana would be the best source.

With this out of the way, the best foods to help someone who is down would be foods that help increase a persons Serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical in the body that helps balance a person’s moods. Synthetic Serotonin is an active ingredient in today’s Prozac. But natural Serotonin occurs in the foods we eat.

Here is a list of food that helps increase Serotonin levels: Chicken, Turkey, Tuna, Salmon, Kidney Beans, Rolled Oats, Lentils, Chickpeas, Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, baked Potato with skin, Tahini (sesame butter), Walnuts, Avacado, and Almond Butter.

Complex Carbohydrates also help with levels, which is why most “comfort” food, is extremely high in carbs.

The website below gives some suggestions outside of food to help increase Serotonin. But the above, should be enough to help you come up with something tasty for your friend.

As an FYI here are some things that can inhibit Serotonin production are: Alcohol, Aspartame, Caffeine, Smoking (cigarette), Diabetes, Diet Pills, Ecstasy, Hypoglycemia, Lack of Exercise, Lack of Sunlight, Stress, and Anger.

Long story short, I got a new job working as front desk and tier 1 support for a software company. The bennifits will include (hopefully) working from home.

As mentioned, I'll send more details later.

7:00PM

So, I'm finally famous. :) hehe

The story: Every year, for the last few years, we've gone to a Pirate camping event though it has connections to the SCA, it isn't a sanctioned event. The event is called Sea Dog Nights and Gyspy Carnival and is a lot of fun. Since getting involved, we've found out that there are several Pirate events locally. One of the said events is called Pirate Karaoke. Basically a bunch of people dressed as pirates, singing Karaoke. Often pirate themed, very silly, and it was fun (only negative aspect smoking in bars is still in oregon and that they closed early). Someone had commented on my pirate outfit, and I was telling them what was missing: good boots and a jacket. I was talking about a website that I wanted to get a jacket from, and a person turned around and handed me their business card. She was the owner of the website, and told me that she's would offer clothing/garb in exchange for modeling work on the website.

9:15AM - The new improved seasoned Ryan

So, long time since real post. I’ve noticed that most of my posts nowadays start that way, don't they? As spring rolls its face once again on me up here in the Northwest I'm reminded of how dreary the winter is, or can be. I'm not saying that the northwest is a dreary place, quite the contrary in fact. The winters tend to be dreary, overcast 80% of the time, raining/hail/snow 70% of the time. These figures are not 100% accurate of course, but they feel like it anyhow. We usually get snow that sticks about once a winter and it lasts about a week or so. This year it snowed enough for my wife and I to make an honest to goodness Snowman, roughly 34 feet tall with large fangs and it devoured small cars as they passed by with out smiling when they saw it... well maybe not. It was a modest 4 1/2 feet tall, with a banana mouth, Grape nose, and orange eyes. Let me tell you, this is one snowman that wasn't gonna get scurvy. It should have been a Pirate Snowman. Then I would only have needed one orange! Anyways I digress, what else is new eh?

7:53AM

Truth is stranger than fiction. So, I've been thinking of starting a web page for stuff I'm interested in, and a place to share it with people.

I asked her what kind of web page should it be, since most of what I'm into is a little to broad for my tastes. I wanted something a little more focused. Jenn mentioned that I start up a comic I use to draw in high school. I thought about it, and figured it couldn't hurt to do something like that. Those in the know, will know what stick figure comic I'm in reference too. Please don't mention the name yet. :)

So, I decided if I wanted to do this, I'd see about trying to protect my character ideas and such not. So I did a handy dandy google search for copyright and trademark laws. It of course pulled up the Copyright government website. Actually it was a link straight to their FAQ, and as I'm reading through it, I found a rather bizarre entry.

12:33PM - A thanks to God.

I just wanted to thank you God, for setting up our situation the way you have. I will pray/send good thoughts to the other people that may be negatively impacted by this event.

I took the day off to finish the packing of the apartment. I woke late today unfortuantely, because I was up till 3am last night. I was taking out some purged trash/useless/non-giveawayable stuff and there was a note on the door.

The note was on the neighbors as well, so it told me it was a broadcast message. I opened it expecting the usual, how to get rid of the XMas trees without creating a mulch/compost pile of dying holiday spirit by the trash.

But, it wasn't that post... it was something I wasn't expecting.

To paraphrase what it read, Reedville Commons (our apartment complex) has decided to sell its property to a new management company. They didn't give a date when this change would take place unfortunately. My first thought is most likely this place'll get tore out and condos/townhomes will be put up. Seems to be the thing to do right now. as I've seen them squeezed into any nook and cranny as possible.

So, thank you God. For waiting till Jenn and I had started to move out to make this change. I hope my instinct is wrong and just the management is changing. But if not, I will pray/send good energies to the families/people that will need to find a new place to live. May they find what they need soon.
